Manila, Philippines — Chaplaincy leaders from Adventist hospitals across the Philippines convened at Adventist Medical Center Manila on May 28–29, 2025, for the National Chaplains' Conference of Adventist Hospitals in the Philippines, organized by the Adventist International Health System Philippines, Inc. (AIHSPI).
With the theme “Strengthening Adventist Healthcare Chaplaincy: Best Practices for Mission-Driven Spiritual Care in a Changing World,” the two-day conference aimed to enhance the role of hospital chaplains in delivering compassionate, mission-aligned spiritual care amid evolving healthcare challenges.
The event gathered all hospital chaplaincy directors from Adventist medical institutions nationwide. It featured a strong lineup of healthcare leaders and chaplaincy experts who addressed topics such as leadership in chaplaincy, mental health and trauma care, interdisciplinary collaboration, and palliative care.
Keynote speaker Jo Ann Amparo, CPA, MBA, SSD Adventist Healthcare Director, emphasized the importance of adaptability in mission-driven chaplaincy. She led multiple sessions on leadership, advocacy, and integrating chaplaincy into hospital management. Dr. Sheryll Ann Castillo, PhD, RGC, highlighted the vital role of chaplains in addressing mental health needs and fostering resilience among healthcare workers.
The second day spotlighted end-of-life care, interfaith engagement, and future-proofing chaplaincy services. Speakers included Dr. Susano Tanael, Clinical Chaplain, and Chaplain Eliezer Mishael Fajardo, who shared best practices in culturally sensitive spiritual care. The conference concluded with a commitment and commissioning service, led by Mr. Roy Perez, MBA, CEO of AIHSPI.
“The gathering of our chaplaincy leaders reinforces our shared mission to provide holistic healing and hope in our healthcare institutions,” said Mr. Perez. “As we face modern-day challenges, it is vital to equip our chaplains with the tools, network, and inspiration to continue their ministry with compassion and excellence.”
The conference provided a platform for collaboration, sharing of best practices, and spiritual renewal for leaders in Adventist chaplaincy ministry across the country.
